What is Trophy Hunting?
Video Game Trophy Hunting or Achievement Hunting was introduced way back in 2005 on Xbox 360 wherein video games developers added specific tasks in-game to complete in exchange for virtual “achievements” in Microsoft’s new Achievement system. Each game would have a list of achievements with its own set point values and if obtained, it would increased your Xbox Gamerscore. Leaderboards were then introduced and it became a way to showcase your skills and brag about the games you have 100%/completed or achievements you have obtained.
The achievement system grew very popular with completionist gamers and the Achievement Hunter was born. These points would then be used to redeem various rewards like gift cards, game codes, Game Pass etc.
Steam and Playstation then followed suit and created their own Achievement system years later. Steam(2007) and Playstation(2008).

How I got into Trophy Hunting?
I was aware of what trophy/achievement hunting was but never really got into it on Steam or on the PS4. I didn’t really care about 100%-ing games either. Getting to the credits was usually enough for me. How life was simple back then…
The 2020 coronavirus came around and stimulus checks were being sent out by the US government. What does a gamer spend it on? The next gen console of course!
I used part of my check to get a Playstation 5, loaded up the Astro’s Playroom demo and got my first trophy on the PS5.
The trophy popping sound was so satisfying. I then proceeded to complete the game and let the credits roll. After completing the game I just felt the urge to obtain the remaining trophies I had missed. So I looked for a guide online to help me get my first Platinum trophy ever! The platinum trophy popped and all I had left were the DLC trophies for 100% completion. And I got it!
I found a new hobby. I then proceeded to platinum more games to be displayed on my trophy cabinet on PSNProfiles.com.
After a little bit over a year of trophy hunting, I have got the platinum trophy for the games above. I have a few games that I have beat but am still missing a few trophies like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Stardew Valley, Warborn and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Not all trophies are created equal and some are just hard or annoying to get. I’ll conquer them soon enough!
